Agusterello Affre
studied at the conservatoires of Toulouse and Paris, having graduated from the latter with first prize. His Paris Opéra entry was in 1890 as Edgardo in Lucia, the title role taken by Melba, also making her Paris debut. Affre remained a leading tenor there for close to two decades. He also appeared with success in New Orleans, San Francisco, and London’s Covent Garden.
