Maks, according to russian collectors was the M.D. of the Gramophone Co in St. Petersburg - Redkinson who, apparently, was a well known and respected amateur singer.
The common view in the west has been that the name Maks was an abbreviation or pseudonem for Maksakov, a dramatic baratone who sang mostly in Moscow. Comparison of the voices of Maks and Maksakov reveals that they are two different singers
